Goa, Oct 31: Bengaluru FC began their Group C journey in the AIFF Super Cup on a winning note, defeating Mohammedan Sporting Club 2-0 at the PJN Stadium, Fatorda, on Thursday.
The Blues, combining youthful exuberance with experienced heads, delivered a composed and dominant display under the floodlights. Teen sensation Taorem Kelvin Singh opened his club account with a fine strike in the 34th minute, while skipper Sunil Chhetri sealed the victory with a late penalty in the 86th minute.

Bengaluru FC controlled the tempo from the outset, keeping possession and pressing high, forcing Mohammedan’s defence to stay deep. Despite some spirited counterattacks by the Kolkata side, goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu remained solid under the bar, denying Tangva Ragui and Adison with crucial saves.
The first-half breakthrough came when Braian Sanchez delivered a precise cross from the left, which Kelvin controlled brilliantly before smashing into the top corner.
After the break, Mohammedan Sporting pushed hard for an equaliser, but Bengaluru’s backline held firm. Chhetri nearly doubled the lead midway through the second half, missing narrowly from a Vinith Venkatesh free kick.
Sanchez’s powerful strike in the 79th minute rattled the post before Chhetri calmly converted a penalty to secure the three points for the Blues.
With this win, Bengaluru FC start their Super Cup campaign on a positive note, showcasing both tactical discipline and attacking flair as they aim for a strong run in the tournament.
