Panaji, Oct 30: In a move aimed at enhancing commuter safety and real-time vehicle monitoring, the Directorate of Transport, Government of Goa, has made it mandatory for all public service vehicles to install vehicle location tracking devices and emergency buttons by November 30, 2025.
The directive, issued by Director of Transport P. Pravimal Abhishek, IAS, comes after recent inspections revealed that several vehicles were operating without functional safety and tracking systems.

According to the official order, all installations must strictly comply with Automotive Industry Standard (AIS-140) norms and can be fitted by the vehicle manufacturer, dealer, or operator.
The department has further clarified that compliance will be verified during the renewal of vehicle fitness certificates and through surprise inspections, ensuring that no vehicle operates without these mandatory safety features.
Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen Goa’s public transport safety framework by enabling real-time tracking, quicker emergency response, and better regulatory oversight.
Transport authorities have urged all vehicle owners and operators to complete the installations within the stipulated deadline to avoid penalties or suspension of permits.
