Goa Cabinet clears Cooperative Policy 2026, expands benefits for women staff and school helpers

Panaji, Feb 11: The State Cabinet has given its nod to the Goa State Cooperative Policy 2026, aligning it with the Centre’s National Cooperative Policy 2025 framed under the vision of “Sahkar se Samridhi” and Viksit Bharat 2047. The new state policy also complements the long-term roadmap of “Swayampurna Goa@2037” and seeks to revitalise the cooperative sector by tackling pressing issues such as weak governance structures, financial instability, shortage of professional expertise, and the urgent need for digital modernisation.

The policy framework was prepared by a committee led by Advocate Narendra Sawaikar, focusing on strengthening institutional efficiency and ensuring sustainable growth of cooperative bodies across the state.

In a separate key decision, the Cabinet approved the extension of maternity leave benefits to female coterminous staff appointed in the offices of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers, Leader of Opposition, Advocate General, and other officials holding Cabinet rank or status. The provision will apply to women employees with fewer than two surviving children.

Additionally, the Cabinet cleared amendments to an existing scheme that grants a wage increase to 42 helpers employed in government pre-primary schools. The move is aimed at providing financial support and acknowledging the contribution of support staff within the education system.
