Mangaluru, Oct 30: The police have arrested Jamal Zakir, who had been absconding in connection with the murder case of Raheem in Bantwal, for allegedly creating communal hatred and enmity between religions through a provocative video posted on Instagram.

The accused had reportedly uploaded a video in the Beary dialect on social media following Raheem’s murder, making inflammatory statements such as questioning the silence of his community, challenging others to retaliate, and declaring his readiness to sacrifice his life for religion. The content was deemed to promote hostility and enmity between communities.

Based on this act, a case was registered at Ullal police station on May 28 for attempting to incite communal tension through social media.

Following the registration of the case, the accused went into hiding. However, the Ullal police successfully traced and arrested him. He was produced before the court and has been remanded to judicial custody.
