Karwar, Oct 28: Environmental enthusiast Nagraj Bajal from Mangaluru, known for his unique cleanliness campaigns under the concept of ‘Swachha Mangaluru’, has launched yet another inspiring initiative — a 300-km cleanliness awareness walk from Karwar to Mangaluru titled ‘Hasiru Nadige – Prati Hejje Swachhateyedege’ (Green Walk – Every Step Towards Cleanliness).
Carrying a placard that reads ‘Don’t Litter, Manage Waste’, Nagraj’s mission is to spread awareness on cleanliness and responsible waste management among people in the coastal belt’s villages and towns. His campaign also aims to engage local bodies and citizens in discussions on effective waste handling practices while identifying successful local models that could be replicated in other regions.

The ‘Hasiru Nadige’ walk was flagged off on October 27 by Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya at the district panchayat office. After an interaction with Swachh Bharat Mission officials, Nagraj began his journey from Karwar, passing through Gokarna and reaching Kumta on October 28. He plans to continue via Honnavar and Udupi, reaching Mangaluru by November 3.
Speaking about the purpose of his initiative, Nagraj said, “The amount of plastic waste entering the sea along the coastal region is increasing every day due to poor solid waste management. Through this walk, I aim to interact with panchayats, schools, colleges, religious centres, organisations and the public to learn and share effective waste management practices.”
