Mangaluru: Accused in Suratkal stabbing case attacks police personnel; case registered

Mangaluru, Oct 28: A case has been registered at Suratkal police station against Gururaj Achari (29), the prime accused in the Suratkal stabbing case, for allegedly assaulting police personnel and obstructing them in the discharge of their duties.

Following the stabbing incident, Gururaj had gone into hiding. Acting on a tip-off that he was seen near Pragatnagar in Kulai Gudde, PSI Sudeep M V and his team from the Suratkal police station launched an operation to apprehend him. During the operation, the police found Gururaj hiding under a tree on a mud road near Pragatnagar.

When the police confirmed his identity and approached him, Gururaj tried to flee. Police constable Vinayak chased him, but the accused picked up a wooden stick lying on the ground. Despite the officers identifying themselves and showing their ID cards, Gururaj allegedly ignored them, obstructed their duty, and struck Vinayak hard on his left shoulder with the stick. He then kicked the officer, causing him to fall, and attempted to escape.

However, PSI Sudeep and the other personnel pursued and apprehended him. A case has been registered against Gururaj for assaulting police officers and obstructing them in the performance of their duties.
