Mangaluru, Oct 28: In a remarkable act of bravery and humanity, local youths rescued a two-and-a-half-year-old girl who accidentally fell into a 15-foot-deep open well in the premises of her house at Mariyammagoli Daivasthana near Deralakatte Belma village on Sunday evening.

The rescued child has been identified as Himani, daughter of Guruprasad. The incident occurred when the child, who was playing in the courtyard while her family members were seated nearby, accidentally fell into the open well that had no protective wall.

Himani’s uncle, Jeevan, immediately tied a rope around himself and got into the well to rescue her. However, since he did not know how to swim, he had to remain standing in the water, holding the child’s hand with the help of the rope but was unable to pull her out. The child had gone underwater once but surfaced again.

Coincidentally, members of the ‘Team Pelathady Friends’ group, who were on their way to play in a nearby field, noticed the commotion and rushed to the spot. Among them, Vivek bravely descended into the well using the same rope and jumped into the water to save the child. His friends, including Dhananjay and other local youths, held the rope securely and encouraged him throughout the rescue effort.

After a tense few moments, the child was safely lifted out of the well. Fortunately, she was found to be healthy and unharmed. The courageous and humanitarian act of the youths has drawn widespread appreciation from the public.

Vivek, who played a crucial role in the rescue, works as a supervisor at a gardening company.

"Vivek bravely descended into the well using the same rope and jumped into the water to save the child" No words can match Vivek's act of courage (sheer guts) and selfless emotions saved that child. Nothing can forsake God's love and blessings.🙏

The well appears to lack a proper parapet wall, making it unsafe even for adults. The baby seems barely six months old and it’s truly a miracle the little one was rescued alive. Hard to imagine the fear and suffocation that tiny child must have endured underwater.
