Mangaluru, Oct 21: A complaint was filed on Monday, Oct 20, regarding the theft of gold ornaments, cash, foreign currency, and mobile phones worth about Rs 20 lac from three flats in an apartment in the city.
Swift police action led to the arrest of two accused within 20 hours, and the recovery of gold ornaments, cash, and 3,000 Dirhams, according to a report on Tuesday, October 21.

The arrested are Abhijit Das (24) and Deba Das (21), residents of Meherpur Post, Cachar district, Assam.
As per the complaint filed by Riyaz Rasheed at Urwa police station on Oct 20, the accused broke into three flats in the apartment and stole gold ornaments worth around Rs 20 lac, Rs 5,000 in cash, 3,000 Dirhams, and a mobile phone.
Senior police officers, including the inspector and staff of Urwa police station, along with the dog squad and fingerprint experts, visited the crime scene and launched an investigation. Acting swiftly, the team traced and arrested the two inter-state burglars in Bengaluru on the morning of Oct 21, recovering all the stolen gold ornaments, Rs 5,000 in cash, 3,000 Dirhams worth Rs 70,000, and a mobile phone.
It was revealed that the accused Abhijit Das was previously involved in several house burglary cases in Bengaluru and Assam. The arrested were produced before the court and taken into police custody for further interrogation. Police said investigations are underway to determine their involvement in other cases as well.
Under the supervision of the DCP (Crime), the operation to track down the accused was successfully carried out by the ACP of the central subdivision, PI, Urwa police station staff, and the investigation team.
