Mumbai, Oct 20: The contribution of Mumbai-based Tulu artistes to Tulu theatre and cinema has been immense. In their pursuit of livelihood and artistic expression, these brave Tulu artists have enriched their cultural life while shaping their own journeys. Now, a new chapter is set to unfold in the Tulu film industry with the production of “Production Number 1,” the first film by Tanin Films, led by actor and filmmaker Rahim Sacheripete.
The muhurtha of the film was held on October 16, at Sri Dharmadaiva Jarandaya Temple, Pilar, where the local priest, Gunakar Poojari, performed the traditional rituals. The film is directed by creative Mumbai Tulu-Kannada theatre director Manohar Shetty Nandalike. Cameramen Sainath Shetty and Sudheer Shetty handled the camera, while film producer and actor Dr Rajshekhar Kotiyan gave the clap to officially launch the production. Local well-wishers and dignitaries were present to bless the project.

Based on Nagraj Gurupur’s Dolu Natak, the story and dialogues have been crafted by active theatre director Viddu. The screenplay is based on the writings of playwright Narayan Shetty Nandalike. The director of photography and editor of the film is Prajwal Suvarna, with Shrutin Shetty and Kishore Pillar serving as production managers. Manjunath Shettigar is in charge of makeup, and Shinoy Joseph has composed the music.
The film reflects the cultural life, traditions, and beliefs of Tulunadu. Key roles will be essayed by prominent Tulu theatre personalities including Vijaykumar Kodialbail, Mohan Sheni, Uday Poojari Ballal, Roop Vorkady, Nitesh Elinje, Jayaram Acharya, Ashok Pakkala, Naveen Shetty, Karnuru Mohan Rai, Shivaram Shetty, Ashok Kodyadak, Sunil, Nilesh, Jagadish, Sadanand, Sunitha Suvarna, Diksha Devadiga, Pratima Bangera, Praveena Shetty, and Sujata Kotiyan.
Filming will take place across various locations in Tulunadu from October 16 to November 10. The announcement of the project has already sparked curiosity and excitement among Tulu film enthusiasts.
