Eight killed as mini truck falls into gorge in Nandurbar

Nandurbar, Oct 19: At least eight people were killed and 15 others injured after a speeding mini truck plunged into a deep gorge in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar district on Saturday morning, police said. The tragic mishap occurred when the vehicle lost control on a steep hilly stretch and veered off the road.

The accident took place around 10.30 am in the Chandsaili Ghat section under the jurisdiction of Taloda Police Station. Local authorities and rescue teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported.

Police and local volunteers launched a swift rescue operation to bring out the victims from the gorge. The injured were immediately shifted to the Taloda Sub-District Hospital, while those in critical condition were referred to the Nandurbar District Hospital for advanced medical care. The bodies of the eight deceased were sent for post-mortem before being handed over to their families.

According to reports, the victims were returning from a visit to the Astamba Devi temple when the tragic incident occurred. The injured, including the driver, are currently undergoing treatment at Taloda and Nandurbar Civil Hospitals.

Police identified the deceased as Ganesh Bhill, Bhushan Gosavi, Pawan Mistari, Bapu Dhangar, Chetan Patil, Yogesh Thakare, Rahul Mistari, and Hiralal Bhill.

A case has been registered against the driver, Vilas Desle, for rash and negligent driving. Police have begun a detailed investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident.

District officials have expressed condolences to the bereaved families, and efforts are on to provide assistance to the injured victims.
