Trump’s umbrella fumble in rain goes viral ahead of Middle East trip

Daijiworld Media Network – Washington

Washington, Oct 13: In a light yet widely shared moment, US President Donald Trump, 79, was seen struggling to close his umbrella while boarding Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, on a rainy Sunday, just before his much-anticipated Middle East visit.

As Trump stepped out of his car holding an umbrella, he briefly fumbled with it near the aircraft stairs before an aide quickly intervened. The incident, captured on camera, went viral across social media platforms.

A user posted on X, “Trump can’t close his own umbrella. Embarrassing for our nation,” while others responded with humour and memes.

Some defended the President, with one user commenting, “Be nice. Some things are more challenging when you’re really, really old,” while another quipped, “But he can do everything else, including world peace, boy.”

This isn’t Trump’s first umbrella mishap — similar incidents were reported in 2018 and April 2025, both times while boarding Air Force One in rainy weather.

Despite the light-hearted moment, Trump’s Middle East visit remains a key diplomatic mission, coming just as the US-brokered Israel-Hamas peace deal nears finalisation.
