Mangaluru: Illegal laterite stone transport from Kerala; four arrested

Mangaluru, Oct 9: Police teams from Ullal and Konaje stations seized three lorries and arrested four persons on Thursday for illegally transporting laterite stones from Kerala.

The arrested have been identified as lorry driver Iqbal from Montepadavu, owner Shafeeq, and drivers Zainuddin (42) from Ammembal and Manoj Kumar.

Based on credible information, Ullal police intercepted a lorry at Talapady, while Konaje police seized two lorries near Thodugoli.

Following a tip-off from constable Mohammed Gaus, who was on duty at Manjanady Junction, Konaje police raided the spot and found a lorry carrying 250 laterite stones without valid permits from Kerala. The vehicle and stones were seized, and a case was registered against Zainuddin.

In another incident, a tipper lorry carrying 250 laterite stones was intercepted near Thodugoli. The driver, Manoj Kumar, was found transporting the stones from Bavaliguri in Kerala to Kalminja without permit or royalty payment receipts.

Konaje police seized the lorry and stones, arrested Zainuddin and Manoj Kumar, and issued notices to both.

Cases have been registered at Ullal and Konaje police stations.
