Delhi, Sep 21: A family was caught on camera stealing bedsheets and towels from the first AC coach of the Purushottam Express, sparking outrage on social media. The incident unfolded when Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) and railway staff confronted the family, who reluctantly returned the items.

In a viral video, a railway attendant is heard saying, “Bedsheets and blankets are coming out of all the bags. Either return them or pay Rs 780.” The passenger claimed it was an honest mistake, suggesting his mother might have packed the items accidentally, but staff remained unconvinced.

The TTE warned that the matter could escalate under the Railways Act, highlighting the seriousness of misusing public resources. Indian Railways provides bedding in sleeper and AC classes for passenger comfort, which must be returned after the journey.

The video drew sharp criticism online, with netizens calling the act “disgusting” and urging strict penalties, including lifetime bans from train travel. The official Railway Seva account confirmed that the matter has been escalated for necessary action.
