CDS calls for creative, indigenous warfare models at EastTech 2025

Ranchi, Sep 19: Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan on Friday urged India’s armed forces and defence industry to break free from Western concepts of war and embrace home-grown, innovative warfare models to stay ahead in modern combat.

Speaking at EastTech 2025 in Ranchi, Gen Chauhan said, “We can’t remain slaves to Western concepts of war, war fighting, and warfare. War is both a science and an art, and a warrior has to be creative. We will never be able to lead in defence technology unless we are creative. We have to be very innovative, inventive and imaginative.”

Highlighting the importance of self-reliance, the CDS stressed the need to expand India’s defence manufacturing base and explore artificial intelligence and other modern technologies to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

“Although the indigenisation of defence manufacturing started late in India, the country is on the right track,” he added, pointing to ongoing efforts to build a robust domestic defence ecosystem.

The EastTech 2025 forum, which brings together industry leaders, innovators and defence officials, serves as a platform to showcase indigenous technologies and foster collaboration for India’s future warfare capabilities.
