Dubai, Sep 18: The vibrant Vamanjoorean community in the UAE, hailing from Vamanjoor in Mangaluru, Karnataka, came together as one united family to celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Known as Monthi Fest, this beloved tradition is cherished worldwide and often celebrated as a “feast of the family.” The gathering took place on Sunday, September 14, at noon at Khalid’s Biryani restaurant in Oud Metha, Dubai.
The celebration began with a graceful procession of children and adults carrying flowers, while the youth choir sang the entrance hymn. The programme opened with a heartfelt prayer led by the young adults of the Vamanjoor parish.

In a touching display of faith, the community came together to sing the traditional hymn Sakkad Sangatha Melyan, showering flowers in honour of Mother Mary. Special guests Fr Rocky D’Cunha (Neermarga parish) and Fr Denis Veigas (Farangipet parish) offered blessings and gospel reflections, while Fr Victor Fernandes from St Mary’s Church, Dubai, shared an inspiring message.
Vamanjoorean families living in the UAE celebrated this special occasion with deep devotion and enthusiasm, honouring their cultural and spiritual roots.
Sponsors and supporters of the event — Lancy D’Souza, Manoj Vas, Jerald Lobo, Monica Walder, Stephen Menezes, Joy Fernandes, and Vincy — were recognised and presented with bouquets. Johnson Monteiro gave a warm welcome to the priests and all attendees.
One of the highlights of the day was an energetic and captivating group dance by Theen Komble, which kept the audience thoroughly engaged. The entertainment continued with soulful performances by talented singers including Joel Pinto, Avith Lobo, Monica Walder, Stephen Menezes, Jocelyn, and Baba Elohim, who filled the venue with melodious tunes.
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, DJ Errol masterfully managed the music throughout the day and also accompanied the singers on keyboard. Staying true to tradition, attendees enjoyed a sumptuous lunch served on banana leaves, specially prepared by Khalid’s Biryani.
As part of the cultural celebrations, awards for best traditional attire were presented to Elohim Furtado (boys category) and Piyona Maria D’Silva (girls category).
A fun round of Housie Housie added to the excitement, with winners taking home great prizes.
The festivities concluded with a lively baila dance session that brought everyone to the dance floor, creating lasting memories. The entire event was beautifully documented by the official photographer, Lovelyn.
