Salalah, Sep 16: The Konkani Catholic Community of St Francis Xavier Church Salalah, Sultanate of Oman, joyfully celebrated Monthi Fest on September 12th, commemorating the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a traditional feast that highlights the importance of Mother Mary, family and harvest.

The celebration began with prayer, blessing of new corn, a symbol of gratitude for Gods providence and blessings of nature followed by showering of flowers (sponsored by Abilash Sequera) in front of the statue of Mother Mary, a symbolic gesture of love and devotion. Following this, the faithful took part in a reverent procession to the church, led by altar servers and members of the community, carrying the statue of Mother Mary in prayerful devotion.

A solemn feast mass was then celebrated by Fr Francis Sunil D’Souza and Fr Ivan Pinto, who had come all the way from Mangalore, India adding special grace to the occasion. In his homily Fr Sunil emphasizes the importance of family values drawing inspiration from the life of Mother Mary .He encouraged the faithful to live in love and faith which form the foundation of Christian life. The beautifully arranged choir, led by Loy Mendonca and Naveen Serrao enhanced the liturgical celebration with their melodious singing.

Latha Suares, K.C.C coordinator delivered vote of thanks, warmly acknowledging the contributions of the guest priests, parish priest Fr Johnson, choir, lectors, altar servers and congregation for making the celebration meaningful and memorable.

The festivities continued where the community came together to share the traditional and delicious Novem Jevan symbolizing unity and togetherness. The event also included fun and entertainment, with Mr. Malcolm D’chuna as master of ceremony assisted by Mr. Francis in organizing a housie housie game. Prizes were distributed to the winners (sponsored by Mr. Wilson Pinto) and children were delighted to receive goody bags adding to their joy. The Monthi fest celebration by Konkani Catholic Community Salalah was a beautiful expression of faith, culture and community spirit leaving lasting memories for all who attended.
