Mangaluru: Red stone issue resolved, SOP to be released soon - U T Khader

Mangaluru, Sep 16: Speaker U T Khader announced that the long-standing red stone issue has been resolved, with a standard operating procedure (SOP) to be released in the coming days.

Speaking to reporters, Khader said that in the last cabinet meeting, a permanent solution was devised to address the confusion, misuse and fear caused by the absence of clear permits in the past. A new legal framework has now been established, enabling red stone sellers to operate lawfully.

The cabinet has approved the new policy, and the chief minister has also given his consent. Out of 53 applications for red stone business, 25 applicants have already been granted licenses and permits under the new framework.

Khader acknowledged the right to protest on the matter and noted that while political protests were understandable, a fair and legal resolution has now been offered, bringing relief to those in the red stone trade.

He also said that similar measures are being taken to resolve issues related to sand mining. The ‘Sand Bazar’ app has been launched to streamline sand procurement and reduce irregularities. Sand stock seized under CRZ violations will now be redirected for public works, with the deputy commissioner instructed to allocate the material for infrastructure needs.

On road infrastructure, Khader directed that major road repairs across the Mangaluru constituency begin immediately after the recent monsoon. Rs 90 crore has already been sanctioned for road development, including repairs and comprehensive improvements.

Officials have been instructed to patch all potholes without delay. In the event of any accident caused by potholes, action will be taken against the responsible engineers, including legal proceedings.
