Adani Power to build 2,400 MW super-critical plant in Bihar for USD 3 billion

Daijiworld Media Network – Patna

Patna, Sep 13: Adani Power will set up a 2,400 MW ultra super-critical power plant at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district, Bihar, with an investment of about USD 3 billion (around Rs 26,482 crore). The company announced on Saturday that it has signed a 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) to supply electricity from the project, following a Letter of Award issued in August on behalf of North and South Bihar Power Distribution Companies.

Adani Power secured the project by quoting the lowest tariff of Rs 6.075 per kWh. The plant, designed on the Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate (DBFOO) model, will comprise three 800 MW units and is targeted for commissioning within 60 months.

Coal linkage for the plant has been allocated under the Government of India’s SHAKTI policy. The project is expected to create 10,000–12,000 jobs during construction and around 3,000 positions once operational.

Part of the Gautam Adani-led conglomerate, Adani Power is India’s largest private thermal power producer with an installed capacity of 18,110 MW.
