Karkala: Man posing as supervisor held for snatching woman’s gold chain

Karkala, Sep 13: Police arrested a man who allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman after introducing himself as a supervisor in Karkala.

The accused has been identified as Sunil Ramesh Lamani (29) of Savadatti. Police have recovered the stolen gold chain from him.

On Tuesday, September 9, at around 4:30 pm, an unknown man arrived at the house of Kumuda Shetty in Ellare village, Karkala taluk. Introducing himself as a supervisor from Karkala, he asked her whether she owned a house nearby and if her residence had CCTV cameras. He then stayed there for a while and as darkness began to set in, he suddenly grabbed Kumuda’s neck and snatched a rope chain weighing about 25 grams before fleeing from the spot.

While attempting to resist the snatching, Kumuda fell to the ground, sustaining injuries to her forehead, head, right hand, and leg. Soon after, Satish Poojary rushed her to a hospital in Karkala where she received treatment.

Following a complaint lodged at the Ajekaru police station, an investigation was launched under the supervision of CPI Karkala D Manjappa. A team led by Ajekaru PSI Mahesh and his staff apprehended the accused, recovered the stolen gold rope chain, and produced him before the court.
