Mangaluru, Sep 12: Deputy commissioner (DC) H V Darshan has directed officials to make the newly established cath lab at Wenlock District Hospital operational at the earliest to provide advanced treatment for heart-related ailments.
Presiding over the Health Protection Committee meeting held at Wenlock Hospital on Thursday, he stated that the well-equipped cath lab has been set up on the ground floor of the new surgical building. The facility has been readied with state-of-the-art medical equipment, specialist doctors, and technical staff provided by KMC, and it is fully prepared to be functional. He instructed the superintendent of Wenlock Hospital to take necessary steps to make the cath lab available to the public without delay.

The DC further informed that the construction of the new dialysis ward with a capacity of 35 beds at Wenlock has been completed, and minor finishing works must be finalized. He instructed that the construction of the Critical Care Block at Wenlock be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Regarding the widening of the Wenlock–Milagres road, the DC directed the Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner to take immediate action. He also stressed that doctors’ attendance at Wenlock Hospital should be checked periodically to ensure their proper presence during duty hours.
Wenlock Hospital superintendent Dr Shivaprakash and Lady Goschen superintendent Dr Durga Prasad presented updates on hospital developments at the meeting. Zilla panchayat CEO Narvade Vinayak Karbari, MCC commissioner Ravichandra, DCP Ravishankar, district health officer Dr Timmaiah, KMC dean Unnikrishnan, and others were present.
New OPD block with Rs 70 crore grant
The government has sanctioned Rs 70 crore for the construction of a new OPD block at Wenlock Hospital. It was decided that all departments currently functioning in the existing OPD block will be shifted to the Trauma Block, and the present OPD building will be relocated accordingly.
Paid parking facility
Approval was also given to set up a temporary paid parking facility on 2.71 acres of vacant land owned by Wenlock Hospital at Attavar village. The meeting also decided to purchase electric buggy vehicles to supply food to patients in different hospital blocks. Several expenditure proposals related to Wenlock and Lady Goschen Hospitals were approved in the meeting.
