Riyadh, Sept 11: Saudi Arabia will celebrate its 95th National Day on Tuesday, September 23, marking the historic unification of the Kingdom in 1932. This year’s celebrations, themed “Pride in Our Nature”, are expected to showcase a vibrant mix of tradition, culture, and modern entertainment, reflecting the nation’s heritage and ambitions.
National Day holds deep significance as it commemorates the 1932 renaming and unification of Nejd and Hejaz into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under King Abdulaziz Al Saud. Declared a public holiday in 2005 by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the day has since become one of the country’s most important non-religious observances, alongside Founding Day and Flag Day.
Though official announcements are awaited, employees in both government and private sectors traditionally receive a holiday, with last year’s National Day resulting in a four-day weekend. The event, being the last public holiday of the year, gives families a chance to travel, gather, and celebrate together.
Across the Kingdom, National Day will be marked by folk dances, concerts, art exhibitions, drone shows, aerial displays, and the signature green illuminations on iconic buildings.
Restaurants and businesses too are expected to join in with special offers and themed festivities.
This year’s theme “Pride in Our Nature”, unveiled by the General Entertainment Authority, highlights six core values central to Saudi identity: generosity, authenticity, ambition, solidarity, Vision 2030, and hospitality. Each value is symbolized through cultural imagery such as the dallah coffee pot, Tuwaiq Mountain, and traditional gestures of unity, forming the essence of the celebration.
Saudi National Day continues to stand as a unifying occasion, celebrating not only the country’s historic roots but also its vision for the future. With the festivities just days away, citizens and residents alike look forward to honoring a milestone that reflects both pride in heritage and confidence in progress.
