Zeeshan Siddique questions police over RTI denial on Anmol Bishnoi deportation

Mumbai, Sep 10: Zeeshan Siddique, son of late former minister Baba Siddique, has raised concerns over the crime branch’s refusal to provide information under the RTI Act regarding the deportation proceedings of gangster Anmol Bishnoi, accused in his father’s murder.

Zeeshan had sought details of the steps taken by the police to secure Anmol’s deportation from Canada, where he was detained earlier this year following an Interpol alert. However, the police cited exemptions under the RTI Act and refused to disclose the information.

Following this, Siddique filed a first appeal on August 16 before Deputy Commissioner of Police (Disclosure) Raj Tilak Roshan, the first appellate authority, seeking transparency on the matter.

Baba Siddique was shot dead in Bandra on October 12, 2024. Investigations into the case led to at least 25 arrests, with probes revealing that Anmol Bishnoi, younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, allegedly orchestrated the killing.

The RTI denial has sparked criticism from the politician, who insists that the public has the right to know the status of the investigation and deportation efforts against the accused.
