Udupi: Leopard cub rescued from well in Manipura village

Udupi, Sep 10: A leopard cub that had fallen into a well was successfully rescued near the CSI Church in Manipura village on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the garden well of Jacob Sequeira, brother of Manipura gram panchayat vice-president John Sequeira. Upon noticing the leopard in the well, locals immediately informed the forest department. Officials soon arrived at the spot, carried out a rescue operation, and later released the leopard into the Someshwar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Jacob Sequeira had gone to check the water pump in his well, which was not functioning. During the inspection in the afternoon, he discovered the leopard trapped inside.

The cub, estimated to be a 2–3-year-old female, was rescued after a two-hour-long operation with the support of forest officials, NGO Udupi’s Akshay Shetty, and local residents.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of RFO Warijakshi, with the participation of deputy range forest officer Shivananda, forest guards Devaraj Paan, Ramachandra Nayak, Srinivas Jogi, Manjunath, and Akhilesh.
