Media Release

Jamshedpur, Sep 9: The Mangalurean and Goan Community in Jamshedpur came together for the second consecutive year to celebrate the vibrant Monthi Fest. Led by Fr Vinod Fernandes, SJ, the event was hosted by the good sisters of Sacred Heart Convent, who graciously welcomed over 80 attendees.

The celebration began with an opening prayer and blessing of the new grain, followed by a procession to the chapel, where Fr Donald D'Souza SJ presided over the Mass. Fr Rockie Cardoza delivered a meaningful homily, and the chapel resonated with beautiful singing of the choir led by Reshma Rodrigues. The congregation sang hymns in both Konkani and English, evoking nostalgia and memories of festal celebrations in Mangaluru.

After the Mass, the community gathered in the Convent Hall for lunch, preceded by the drinking of Noven and a lavish spread of 17 traditional Monthi Fest delicacies and varieties of desserts and fruits.

Fr C R Prabhu was felicitated in advance for his birthday and 60th jubilee as a priest. Fr Jerry Cutinha SJ, provincial of the Jamshedpur Jesuits, said the grace before the meals.

The celebration concluded with the singing of 'Laudate Dominum’ leaving everyone with a sense of joy, nostalgia, and devotion to our Mother.

The Monthi Fest celebration was a testament to the community's spirit and togetherness, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Mangalorean and Goan community.
