Mangaluru, Sep 5: The Department of History, School of Arts and Humanities, organised "Nexus 2025", a national level intellectual and cultural extravaganza for PU and UG students on September 4 in the LF Rasquinha Hall.
The theme for this year "It’s Time for Her Story" emphasised the importance of women in shaping the history of our country as well as the world.
Prof Rahul Ramagundam, historian & author was the chief guest of the day, Dr Denis Fernandes, retired professor of history was the guest of honour, Fr Melwin Pinto SJ presided over the programme, Kishore Alva, executive director and president of Adani Group was the special guest. Dr Alwyn D’Sa, registrar of the Autonomous College, Dr Charles V Furtado, director of the administrative block, Dr Rose Veera D’Souza, dean – School of Arts and Humanities, Dr Mona Mendonca, HoD – Department of History and staff coordinator of Nexus 2025, Kishore Chandra and Shilpalatha, lecturers of History, Amit Kumar Chaudhary and Elvis Franklyn Lobo, student coordinators of Nexus 2025 were present on the dais.

Prof Rahul, in his speech upheld how women, who were so important to the field of history were often neglected due to the social norms which prevailed in those time and also advised the students to maintain a diary which could be a great source of history.
Dr Denis, spoke about his memories in the college and how this fest was an important milestone for the department and how history connects to all areas of study and spoke about the importance of writing history in his address.
Fr Melwin in his presidential address remarked that history is fun if we’re not sticking to the conventional ways of studying history from our textbooks but rather living it.
Kishore also reminisced about his memories and also emphasized on the importance of history in his speech.
During the inaugural, Remona Evette Pereira was felicitated for her achievements and Tanvi Poojary was awarded a prize for designing the official logo of NEXUS 2025.
Dr Mona Mendonca thanked the gathering.
Following the inaugural, a splendid dance performance on Cleopatra, the queen of Egypt was performed. After the dance, Prof Rahul Ramagundam gave a talk on George Fernandes and his life.
Six events were organised as part of Nexus – Epidexis (Paper Presentation), Elenchus (Debate). Metamorphoses (Mock Press), The Labyrinth (Quiz), Lysistrata (Street Play) and Chrysomallos (Treasure Hunt) for the students. 135 students from 10 colleges participated in the competitions.
The valedictory was held at Robert Sequeira Hall, with Dr Rudolph Noronha, GM, corporate communications, MRPL as chief guest, Dr Arun Isloor, professor and former head of Chemistry Department at NITK Surathkal, Dr Rose Veera D’Souza dean – School of Arts and Humanities, Dr Mona Mendonca, HoD – Department of History and staff coordinator of Nexus 2025, Kishore Chandra and Shilpalatha, lecturers of History, Amit Kumar Chaudhary and Elvis Franklyn Lobo, student coordinators of Nexus 2025 were present on the dais.
Geethika Sudheesh compered the programme and Poorvi Rao welcomed the gathering.
Dr Rudolph, gave his address on how history fascinated him even if he was a mechanical engineering graduate, and spoke about history was necessary in our lives.
Dr Arun Isloor, in his address spoke about entrepreneurships in history, wished everyone well and congratulated on the success of the event. He was also felicitated for donating 2732 books from his father’s and uncle’s collections to the University library.
The overall championship was shared by SDM Law College, Mangaluru and Poornaprajna College, Udupi thus giving a fitting end to an historic event. Student coordinator, Elvis Franklyn Lobo thanked the gathering.
