Milad-un-Nabi celebrated with fervour in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi dists

Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 5: The birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was marked with grand Milad-un-Nabi processions and celebrations across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Friday, September 5.

In Mangaluru, a public Milad rally was organised by Mangaluru Social Service. The rally began from Nadupalli Juma Masjid in Kudroli and concluded at the Eidgah Masjid in Bavutagudda, after passing through the Central Juma Masjid road. Madrasa students from Bunder and Kudroli areas performed traditional duff displays, drawing attention along the route.

The rally was flagged off near the Central Juma Masjid by Dakshina Kannada district qazi Shaikhuna Alhaj Twaka Ahmed Musliyar, who extended greetings on the occasion.

Muslim Central Committee general secretary Hanif Haji, Mangaluru Social Service president K P Abdul Rasheed, former mayor K Ashraf, general secretary Riyaz Kachman, treasurer M Saleem, and other office-bearers were present.

In Udupi district, Milad processions were taken out with enthusiasm in several towns and villages including Kapu Polipu, Uchila, Muloor, Padubidri, Karkala, Shirva, Katapady, Nejaru, Kundapur, Byndoor’s Shiroor, and others. Starting from local mosques, the processions moved through main streets before returning to the mosques. Students, scouts, and children from madrasas participated with duff performances, devotional songs, and tableaux carrying messages of the Prophet.

In Kaup, the procession began from Polipu Juma Masjid and proceeded to Koppalangadi, later joining rallies from Majoor Mallar and Pakiran Katte mosques before returning.

At Padubidri, the rally started from Kanchinadkka Juma Masjid and passed through the state highway and market area before concluding at Padubidri Juma Masjid. A grand procession was also held in Hejamady under Kannangar Juma Masjid, while in Kundapur’s Kodi, four mosques joined together for a common rally that concluded at Bilal Masjid.

Along the routes, refreshments such as sweets and cold drinks were distributed. In several places, local Hindus extended support by offering snacks and drinks to participants, reflecting communal harmony. Many mosques also arranged community meals, where people of all faiths took part.

Heavy police security was deployed across Udupi district to ensure smooth conduct of the processions. Organisers informed that due to Friday Juma prayers, Milad processions in Nejaru, Doddanagudde, Gangolli, and some other areas will be held on September 6 and 7.
