Daijiworld Media Network - Brahmavar

Brahmavar, Sep 1: A woman and her young child were found hanging at their residence near Kunjalu Heranje Cross under Brahmavar police station limits on August 31.

The deceased have been identified as Sushmita (35) and her daughter Shrestha (1 year and 6 months). The incident reportedly took place when Sushmita’s husband had gone to Bengaluru for court-related work.

Udupi superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, who visited the spot, told reporters: “A woman and her child were found hanging in the afternoon of September 1 in Brahmavar. The deceased have been identified as Sushmita and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Preliminary investigation suggests that the mother took the extreme step after first ending the life of the child. A suicide note has been recovered, in which she has taken full responsibility for the incident. It has also come to light that her husband was convicted by the High Court in a 2009 case under Section 307 (attempt to murder).”

Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.

Maybe those her husband murdered were persecuting or torturing her in his absence. Or even husband could have threatened her also. Case to be investigated and those responsible for causing her to commit suicide must be prosecuted and given live sentence or minimum ten years rigorous imprisonment. If law exists in India, that is.

She was worried about the social stigma she would face. Even in 2025, when the world is so advanced and live-in relationships are becoming common, people are taking extreme measures. An innocent life was lost for nothing.....

It is truly heartbreaking to hear about the incident where a mother took the life of her child and then ended her own. Whatever difficulties we face in life, please do not take such extreme steps. There is always help and hope.
