Mangaluru: Scooter skids on pothole at Nanthoor, bus driver’s alertness averts major mishap

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Aug 31: A major accident was averted at Nanthoor junction on Saturday, August 30, thanks to the presence of mind of a bus driver.

The incident occurred around 8.45 pm when Shashidhar Shetty, the driver of Rajalaxmi bus (route no. 15), was on its way from KPT to Nanthoor. A scooter, reportedly over-speeding, hit a large pothole on the road and skidded, throwing the rider onto the road. Shashi, who was driving the bus behind the scooter, applied the brakes just in time, preventing what could have been a serious tragedy.

The entire incident was captured on the bus’s dash-cam and the video has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread appreciation for the driver’s alertness.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by potholes at Nanthoor and along several stretches of national highways, which continue to put motorists’ lives at risk. Citizens have urged the authorities to take urgent action to repair the roads before more accidents occur.

The shocking incident at Nanthoor clearly exposes the utter negligence of the NHAI authorities, who have failed to maintain basic road safety, while the local corporator shamelessly sits quiet and the people of Mangalore continue to suffer in silence. It is disgraceful that the local politicians, who otherwise make noise for votes, have chosen to remain mute spectators when lives are at stake. We demand strict accountability—heads must roll, suspensions must be enforced, and those guilty of this gross dereliction of duty must lose their jobs immediately. ironically this pothole is near the NHAI office.

"A scooter, reportedly over-speeding, hit a large pothole on the road and skidded," Reason for the mishap is very much convincing. Results are in proportion of the action. People never learn from previous mistakes.
