KTM 160 Duke promises 40 kmpl mileage, takes on Yamaha MT15 in entry-level segment

Mumbai, Aug 27: KTM has rolled out its latest offering for the youth and performance-enthusiast market — the all-new 160 Duke, priced at Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom). With aggressive styling, a liquid-cooled 164-cc engine, and a claimed mileage figure of 40 kmpl, the bike is being positioned as a direct rival to the popular Yamaha MT15.

Powered by a 164-cc, single-cylinder, SOHC engine, the 160 Duke produces 19 hp and 15.5 Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. KTM says the engine is derived from the 200 Duke but made lighter by 1 kg, with revised internals and optimised valvetrain, ensuring 80% torque below 4,000 rpm.

In comparison, Yamaha’s 155-cc MT15 delivers 18.4 hp, 14.1 Nm torque, and boasts an ARAI-certified mileage of 47.94 kmpl. While the KTM’s official ARAI numbers are awaited, internal testing shows it to be about 10% more fuel-efficient than the 200 Duke. KTM also claims quicker roll-on acceleration in 3rd and 4th gears over the MT15.

On pricing, the Yamaha MT15 still has an edge, with two variants priced between Rs 1.70 lakh and Rs 1.80 lakh.

With its blend of performance, sporty design and improved efficiency, the KTM 160 Duke is set to heat up the competition in India’s entry-level premium bike market.
