Tel Aviv, Aug 22: Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has approved an updated development plan to significantly expand output from the Leviathan offshore natural gas reservoir in the Mediterranean Sea.
The new plan includes additional drilling and upgrades to rig handling capabilities, with the move projected to raise production capacity by nearly 50% in the initial phase.
According to officials, the plan underwent a months-long review process by the engineering and geological teams of the Natural Resources Administration, with technical input from an international consulting firm.
The Leviathan field, one of the largest offshore gas discoveries in the world, has been central to Israel’s domestic energy security and exports to neighbouring countries, with expansion expected to further strengthen its role in the regional energy market.
