Udupi: Awareness session on anti-ragging and anti-drug held at SMVITM

Udupi, Aug 19: The NSS and YRC units of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM) organized an awareness session on anti-ragging and anti-drug, on August 18.

Manjunath Marbad, police sub-inspector, Shirva, chief guest of the event, highlighted the new initiatives undertaken by the Udupi and Mangalore police departments to curb and prevent drug abuse among students. He informed that an anti-drug committee has been constituted, comprising college staff, students, and police officials, with the objective of closely monitoring and preventing drug-related activities. This initiative aims to safeguard the lives and well-being of students.

As part of the preventive measures, he mentioned that 10% of students will be screened once every three months. In addition, he sensitized the students on the issues of ragging and cybercrime, providing valuable tips on how to stay alert and avoid falling victim to cyber threats.

Encouraging the youth to take responsibility as constructive members of society, he emphasized their role in building a safe and drug-free environment.

The session witnessed the participation of over 100 students, followed by a meeting of the newly formed anti-drug committee.

The principal, nodal officer of the committee, faculty and student members actively participated in the deliberations, where the PSI clearly outlined the roles and responsibilities of the committee members.
