OpenAI launches ‘ChatGPT Go’ in India at Rs 399, enables UPI payments

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Aug 19: OpenAI on Monday announced the launch of ChatGPT Go, a new subscription plan priced at Rs 399 per month, aimed at making advanced AI tools more accessible to users in India.

The plan offers 10 times higher message limits compared to the free tier, along with image generation, file uploads, memory, and enhanced Indic language support — all powered by GPT-5. The company said the new plan is designed for Indians who want greater access to ChatGPT’s advanced capabilities at an affordable price.

OpenAI has also enabled UPI payments for all ChatGPT subscriptions, a move expected to ease access across India.

“India is our second-largest market in the world after the US, and it may well become our largest,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said recently, calling India’s adoption of AI “remarkable”.

Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, added, “With ChatGPT Go, we’re excited to make these capabilities even more accessible and easier to pay for through UPI.”

The new plan comes alongside existing tiers – ChatGPT Plus (Rs 1,999 per month) offering priority access and higher limits, and ChatGPT Pro (Rs 19,900 per month) for enterprises needing large-scale customisation and access to the most advanced models.

With millions of students, professionals, developers, entrepreneurs, and creators already using ChatGPT, OpenAI said India continues to be one of its fastest-growing markets.
