Mumbai, Aug 7: Celebrating a remarkable 45-year journey in Indian cinema, veteran actor Dalip Tahil reflected on how the industry has evolved, crediting the rise of OTT platforms, television, and multiplexes for expanding opportunities for actors and creators alike.
“When I started, there were only single-screen cinemas and it was very tough to get work,” Tahil told IANS. “Today, there are many more platforms, but regardless of your goals—be it stardom, money, or fame—you must first become a good actor.”
Known for his memorable roles in classics like Baazigar, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, and Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Tahil said he finds it difficult to choose a single role he's most proud of. “Every project has helped me grow. My first big break was My Dear Kuttichathan, India’s first 3D film. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to work in many successful films and series.”
He also highlighted his recent work on OTT, especially in Neeraj Pandey’s Special Ops 2. “Neeraj is a brilliant storyteller. I couldn’t do season one, but he offered me a layered role in the second season. I trusted his vision completely. On OTT, writers and directors lead the narrative, and Neeraj has both the courage and creativity to push boundaries.”
With a career spanning both commercial and critically acclaimed cinema, Tahil remains grateful for the journey and the changing landscape that continues to offer new creative challenges.
