Manchester, Jul 28: Former Indian cricketer and World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh lauded Team India’s grit and resilience after the visitors pulled off a sensational draw against England at Old Trafford, overcoming a massive 311-run first innings deficit to keep the Test series alive at 1-2 ahead of the final clash at The Oval.
With centuries from skipper Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar, India showcased steely determination under pressure, leaving England stunned. "You don't save a Test like that without serious temperament," Yuvraj posted on X, praising Gill’s historic fourth century in his debut series as Test captain.
The cricketer also hailed KL Rahul’s gritty 90-run knock and applauded the composure of Jadeja and Sundar, whose unbeaten centuries sealed the draw. He didn’t forget to acknowledge Joe Root, who crossed Ricky Ponting’s tally to become the second-highest Test run-scorer with a majestic 150.
India had earlier posted 358 in the first innings, with contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal (58), Sai Sudharsan (61), and Rishabh Pant (54). England responded strongly, powered by Crawley (84), Duckett (94), Root (150), and Stokes (141), declaring at 669. Jadeja stood out with 4/143, while Bumrah struggled.
The turning point came in India’s second innings. Reeling at 0/2 after Chris Woakes’ early strikes, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill put up a crucial 188-run stand. Then, Jadeja (107*) and Washington Sundar (101*) batted with tremendous poise, helping India finish at 425/4 and taking a 114-run lead before stumps were drawn.
The series decider begins July 31 at The Oval, with India eyeing a chance to level the contest.
