Woman, 30, and nephew, 7, killed by speeding truck in Bhiwandi

Bhiwandi, Jul 25: In a tragic road accident, a 30-year-old woman and her seven-year-old nephew lost their lives after being hit by a speeding truck near the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital on Bhiwandi-Kalyan Road on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Sony Banoo and her nephew Abdul Siddique Ansari, both residents of Bhiwandi. According to the police, the two were walking near the hospital gate after visiting a relative admitted at the hospital when the accident occurred.

The truck, reportedly speeding towards Thane, ran over them, causing severe injuries. Eyewitnesses said the two came under the rear wheel of the vehicle. Locals rushed to the scene and alerted police after finding Sony lying in a pool of blood.

The victims were immediately taken to the nearby IGM Hospital, where Sony was declared brought dead. Abdul, who was in critical condition, was shifted to Thane Civil Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

An FIR has been registered against the truck driver under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act. The driver, Raju Kalge (30), has been arrested and produced before the court.

Speaking to the media, PSI Jeevan Mhaske of Nizampura Police Station said, “The truck has been seized. We are examining CCTV footage and recording statements of eyewitnesses to ascertain how the victims came under the wheels.”
