Mangaluru: Workshop on medical coding & career pathways held at Srinivas Institute

Mangaluru, Jul 25: A workshop on ‘Career guidance – Medical coding and future pathways’ was successfully organised by the Department of Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology, Srinivas Institute of Allied Health Sciences, on July 19 at the institute’s Seminar Hall.

The event, held in offline mode, aimed at providing students with insights into career prospects in the rapidly growing field of medical coding, certification processes, and future employment opportunities.

Expert speakers from Cigma Medical Coding, including Dr Alex Baby, Althaf T K, and Aneesh M A, led the interactive sessions. They shared valuable industry insights, highlighted the need for relevant certifications, and discussed the global demand for trained professionals in medical coding and health informatics.

Present on the occasion were Prof Sathyanarayan Reddy, vice-chancellor of Srinivas University; Prof Pavana Krishnamoorthy, dean of SIAHS; Tharani M, course coordinator of the department of AOTT; and faculty members Sowjanya, Akash T, and Akshata.

The session began with a welcome address by Akshata Bhavimani, assistant professor, who stressed the relevance of medical coding as a career path. The workshop was attended by BSc first, second, and third year students of the department.

Students were guided on the real-world expectations of the healthcare industry and the importance of bridging academic learning with practical skills. Speakers also discussed job roles, placement avenues, and international career prospects beyond traditional clinical professions.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Sowjanya, lecturer, SIAHS, marking a successful and enlightening session for the student community.
