Mumbai, Jul 22: Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has unveiled the release date of his much-anticipated historical drama, The Bengal Files, a film he describes as a piercing exploration of a forgotten yet harrowing chapter in Indian history.

In a striking Instagram post, Agnihotri shared images from the film and wrote:

“They turned Bengal’s wisdom into ashes. The land that once lit up Bharat’s soul with Indic renaissance… was silenced by communal hate. The streets of Bengal were drowned in blood. India forgot. But we remembered. And now the world will know. The Bengal Files — Releasing Worldwide on 05 September 2025.”

The film delves into the events surrounding Direct Action Day, a violent episode in pre-independence Bengal that Agnihotri calls a silenced genocide. The post quickly gained traction online, igniting conversations around historical memory and justice.

The Bengal Files had its first public screening in New Jersey on July 19, marking the beginning of an ambitious U.S. premiere tour. The emotional and raw responses from the audience were shared by Agnihotri on social media, with viewers reportedly moved by the film’s unflinching portrayal of violence and loss.

The tour features 10 grand screenings across major American cities, continuing with:

• Washington DC (July 20)
• Raleigh (July 25)
• Atlanta (July 26)
• Tampa (July 27)
• Phoenix (August 1)
• Los Angeles (August 2)
• San Francisco Bay Area (August 3)
• Detroit (August 7)
• Chicago (August 9)
• Houston (August 10)

Produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi, the film features an ensemble cast led by Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar.

The Bengal Files marks the third installment in Agnihotri’s impactful “Files” trilogy, following the critically debated but commercially successful The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files.

With its worldwide theatrical release slated for September 5, 2025, the film aims to spark renewed attention toward a chapter of Bengal’s history that has long remained in the shadows.
