St Aloysius University holds induction programme for inaugural batch of engineering students

Mangaluru, July 15: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, held the student induction programme for the first batch of students enrolled in its newly established school of engineering on July 14.

The event took place at the LF Rasquinha Hall, located in the LCRI Block of the University campus. The programme was graced by the presence of Dr Melwyn D’Cunha, SJ, pro vice-chancellor; Dr Alwyn D’Sa, registrar of the college; Dr Ronald Nazareth, registrar of the University; Fr Vishwas Misquith, finance officer; Dr Ruban S, dean of the School of Engineering and Dr Asha Abraham, director of the LCRI Block.

In his address, Fr Vishwas Misquith introduced the engineering programmes, outlining the vision, mission, and motto of both the School of Engineering and the University. He spoke of the institution’s broader goal to provide holistic education that blends academic rigor with ethical and social values.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Melwyn D’Cunha, SJ described the establishment of the school of engineering as a transformative step in the University’s history. He emphasised that the institution aims to produce not only skilled engineers but also responsible innovators. He said that the school of engineering would equip students with analytical and problem-solving skills, while also aiming to instill values rooted in the Jesuit tradition.

“We aspire to form professionals who balance academic excellence with human values, scientific inquiry with social concern, and technological advancement with ethical responsibility,” he said.

Dr Ronald Nazareth provided an overview of the engineering curriculum and the academic structure, emphasising the University's commitment to quality and outcome-based education. Dr Asha Abraham spoke on the institutional motto and administrative framework, outlining the programs and support systems available to students.

The programme was compered by Samson Peters, while Dr Anup Viegas extended the formal welcome. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Ruban S.

The induction programme marked a significant beginning for the school of engineering and welcomed its inaugural cohort as they embark on their academic and professional journeys at St Aloysius University.
