Mangaluru police to seize Kerala-registered vehicles flouting traffic rules

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jul 10: In a move to curb traffic violations, Mangaluru city police have decided to seize Kerala-registered vehicles found violating traffic rules, especially those involved in rash and high-speed driving.

Cases of Kerala-registered vehicles flouting traffic norms in and around Mangaluru have seen a rise, with nearly 90% of such vehicles reportedly belonging to students, primarily using two-wheelers. These students, studying in various colleges across the city and outskirts, are accused of reckless riding, posing safety hazards to the public.

Despite issuing notices based on CCTV footage, compliance has remained low. As a result, city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has instructed officials to seize such vehicles immediately if found violating traffic rules, and release them only after penalties are paid.

He stated that the law allows for such action and that during a recent meeting with the SP of Kasargod, this issue was discussed. The SP too supported the initiative. The commissioner added that police from respective station limits are conducting regular awareness programmes in colleges about traffic rule compliance. If students continue to flout rules despite being advised by college authorities, vehicle seizure becomes inevitable, he said.

Citing risks to local residents due to repeated violations, the public has urged college managements to monitor outstation students, especially those from Kerala. They must educate students about local laws and ensure strict disciplinary measures in case of non-compliance. Colleges must take responsibility for the actions of their students, citizens demanded.

Incidents involving riding without helmets, triple riding, driving on the wrong side, and over-speeding are reportedly increasing. Violations also include use of tinted glasses in cars and aggressive driving. There have even been instances where locals were threatened when they questioned such behaviour.

With growing concern from residents, Mangaluru police are now tightening enforcement measures to restore traffic discipline in the city.

It is good news that Keralites going to follow Traffic rules in Mangalore especially youths and students. Curtailing their reckless behaviour. Busses especially which goes to Talapady and Ullala. They are like YAMAaA. Directly they ll take people into Yamalokha. So rash. Not bothered about people. If police cancel their License if they do violate traffic rules then they ll learn anlesson.

Most of the buses do drive rashly , especially the express buses from mangalore to udupi, we should have a strict law for this with speed governors.

It is true that most of the two wheelers and cars which flout traffic rules belong to Kerala, mostly young students. We hope this drive by the police will reduce this menace. Also these stringent punishments should be accorded to everyone who is at fault, an vehicle owner for that matter. My opinion is increase the penalties / fines to a very huge amount, so that people feel a real pinch when they shell out a bigger amount as fine.

It's a good initiative. This is high time to do this. Majority kerala vehicle drivers drive recklessly. They have no fear in Karnataka. I too experienced very bad behavior and no civility at all. Police should consider this seriously.

Police should also check PGs and rented houses occupied by Keralites. Alcohol and drug abuse is rampant in such places. Its a pity that Mangaloreans rent out their places to such unwanted and indisciplined elements.

This kind of behavior is totally un-acceptable. These mallu's think they have the support of Siddu Govt. Locals must take necessary measures / morchas or file case against such road violators to curb such behavior. When you are in different state, we too follow their traffic rules.

The problem is KL drivers follow rules in their home state as Kerala Police are very strict when it comes to traffic violations where as Mangalore police hardly catch them even if they break the rules have seen it so many times
