Maharashtra to frame law ensuring social security for gig workers: Minister

Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai

Mumbai, Jul 9: Maharashtra labour minister Akash Fundkar on Tuesday announced that the state government is working on a dedicated law to provide social security benefits to gig and platform workers employed by companies like Zomato.

Speaking in the legislative council, Fundkar said a new category of employees, termed 'platform workers', is steadily emerging in the workforce. “It is necessary to frame an independent law for them. A draft is being worked out so that platform workers get social security,” he said.

Assuring support, the minister added that the state government firmly stands behind gig workers and is committed to safeguarding their welfare through legislative measures.
