Kasargod, July 5: A late-night burglary attempt near Uppala was swiftly foiled after an alert family raised an alarm and helped police track down and arrest the intruder within hours. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Jodukal, under Manjeshwar police station limits.

The accused, Kalandar Shafi (34) of Shantyodaya, Jodukallu, broke into the house of Harish, a resident of Kannattipara, Bekoor, around 3 am by forcibly opening the main door.

The loud noise alerted the sleeping family, who woke up and shouted for help. Startled, the intruder fled the scene in an autorickshaw, a detail the family quickly passed on to police.

Responding swiftly, Manjeshwar police reached the scene, examined CCTV footage from nearby areas, and successfully identified the suspect. He was arrested within hours of the attempted burglary.

Further investigation revealed that Shafi was previously involved in a 2021 narcotics case, where five kilograms of ganja were seized from his possession.

The prompt action by the police, aided by the family’s quick thinking, has been widely appreciated by local residents.
