Bahrain, July 3: Renowned Yakshagana artiste and revered dance guru Deepak Rao Pejawar, who has spent the past decade nurturing Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage in Bahrain, was given a heartfelt farewell as he prepares to leave the island nation permanently.

The event, titled "Yaksha Deepakabhinandanam", was organised by the Kannada Sangha Bahrain at the Kannada Bhavan auditorium. The evening began with a vibrant Yakshagana performance of “Shumbhantaki”, which captivated hundreds of Yakshagana lovers.

Deepak Rao Pejawar, who worked as a lecturer in Bahrain, also served as Yakshaguru (dance master) at the Yakshopasana Kendra under Kannada Sangha. Over the years, he trained hundreds of students in the classical art form and directed several well-received Yakshagana performances. His deep influence cultivated a wide circle of disciples and admirers in the region.

Following the stage performance, a touching felicitation ceremony was held where he and his wife were honoured with shawls, garlands, fruit baskets, mementoes, and warm words of appreciation.

The stage was graced by Kannada Sangha's acting president Nitin Shetty, office-bearers, and esteemed guests including Subhash Chandra, Naveen Shetty (Riffa), former president Amarnath Rai, past presidents Raj Kumar, Rajesh Shetty, Pradeep Kumar Shetty, and former general secretaries Ramesh Ramachandran and Kiran Upadhyaya, among others.

In addition to the Kannada Sangha’s tribute, several other Karnataka-based organisations in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia also honoured Deepak Rao, recognising his decade-long cultural service with love, respect, and admiration.

Visibly emotional, Deepak Rao expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the organisations, individuals, and well-wishers who supported his Yakshagana journey in Bahrain. As a gesture of respect, he personally presented mementoes and shawls to key supporters and collaborators.

The event concluded with a special community meal sponsored by the Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation – Bahrain-Saudi Unit, celebrating a legacy of art, culture, and gratitude.
