Mangaluru: Five arrested for possession, sale of ganja; 5.75 kg stash worth Rs 5.2 lac seized

Mangaluru, July 3: In a major crackdown on drug peddling, Mangaluru City Police have arrested five individuals for alleged possession and attempted sale of ganja at Padushedde in Mangaluru. The arrests were made on July 2 following a tip-off received by the Central Crime Station (CCS) police.

The accused have been identified as Tushar alias Sonu (21), son of Rajesh Taranath, resident of Adu Maroli, Bikarnakatte; Dhanvi Shetty (20), son of Balakrishna Shetty, resident of Naguri; Sagar Karkera (19), son of Sheetal Kumar, resident of Jalligudde; Vikas Thapa alias Puchchi (23), son of Raju Thapa, resident of Shaktinagar and Vighnesh Kamath (24), son of late Harish Kamath, resident of Alake, Kandettu.

Based on credible information, the police conducted a raid at Haladi in Padushedde village and seized a total of 5.759 kg of ganja worth Rs 5.2 lac. The accused were reportedly preparing the contraband for sale when the raid was conducted.

Along with the ganja, police also seized six mobile phones and a two-wheeler used in the act.

According to officials, all five accused were actively involved in selling ganja in small packets to the public and students in Mangaluru city. Each packet was reportedly sold for Rs 1,000.

A case has been registered under Crime No. 31/2025 at the Mangaluru Central Crime Station under Sections 8(c) and 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act.

Police have launched a further investigation to trace the source of the ganja supply. The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officers of Mangaluru City Police, with active participation from CCS officers and staff.
