Pune, Jul 3: Panic gripped passengers aboard a SpiceJet flight from Goa to Pune after a window frame came loose mid-air on Tuesday. However, the airline assured that there was no threat to passenger safety as cabin pressurisation remained normal throughout the flight.
The incident occurred on Flight SG1080, operated by a Q400 aircraft. A video shared by a passenger on social media showed the window’s interior trim detaching during the flight, prompting concerns over the aircraft’s airworthiness.
Responding to the viral video, SpiceJet issued a statement on Wednesday clarifying that the part in question was a non-structural cosmetic window frame, meant only for shading purposes. “It did not affect the safety or structural integrity of the aircraft in any way,” the airline stated.
"The Q400 aircraft has multiple layers of window panes, including a pressure-bearing outer pane that ensures full passenger safety, even if a cosmetic component becomes dislodged," the airline added.
The frame was reportedly fixed after the aircraft landed safely in Pune, in line with standard maintenance procedures. Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has not yet issued a statement in response to the viral post that tagged the regulator and questioned the aircraft’s fitness for onward travel to Jaipur.
Despite the scare, SpiceJet maintained that the incident posed no real risk, and all safety protocols were followed.
