Mangaluru, July 3: Police have registered a case and imposed a fine of Rs 6,500 on a group of students who were seen performing dangerous stunts from a moving car on National Highway-73 near Valachil in the city.

Four students were reportedly involved in performing risky stunts by hanging out of the car while it was in motion. Members of the public captured the act on video and alerted the police.

Acting swiftly, officials from the Mangaluru South traffic police station traced the car and the students involved, collected a fine of Rs 6,500, and registered a case against them.

Police action is truly appreciated. But the fine amount should have been hefty. These youngsters are from probably wealthy families who dare to do such stunts on the road. Fine should have been running in lakhs, so that they would not dare repeat such act. Rs.6500/- is peanuts for them. Vehicle could have been seized and Driver License of the person driving person should have been confiscated and kept on suspense for 03 months. Whatever said & done, appreciate public responsivity to report to the Police. Action by the Police is great.

In addition to fine one who was driving should have been penalized and his driving licence temporarily withdrawn. What about seat belt of passengers ?

This is not the first time such incidents have occurred, and it's becoming clear that certain groups of students—often from a specific community—are repeatedly involved in these stunts. A mere fine of Rs. 6,500 seems to have no impact, likely because they come from affluent backgrounds. I strongly urge that stricter measures be taken: impose a fine of at least Rs. 50,000 and proceed with arrests. An FIR should be filed to set a precedent and deter future incidents.

Not enough. Must have seized the vehicle and suspend driving licence temporarily. One who allows such stunts is responsible.
