Hyderabad, Jul 2: Vishnu Manchu’s mythological saga ‘Kannappa’, which opened to strong numbers in Telugu regions, has begun to show signs of fatigue as it enters the weekday phase of its theatrical run. The film has collected Rs 27.45 crore (India net) across five days, according to early trade estimates.

The film had a solid start on Day 1, raking in Rs 9.35 crore, but collections dipped over the weekend, earning Rs 7.15 crore on Saturday and Rs 6.9 crore on Sunday. By Monday, numbers took a steep plunge to Rs 2.3 crore, and on Tuesday (Day 5), the film reportedly managed only Rs 1.75 crore.

The drop in footfalls was visible in occupancy data. The Telugu version recorded just 14.42% occupancy on Tuesday, a sharp fall from opening day numbers. The Hindi version, however, showed a late evening pickup with night show occupancy touching 23.41%, bringing overall occupancy to 14.12%.

Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, ‘Kannappa’ boasts a star-studded ensemble featuring Vishnu Manchu, Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, and Madhoo, with high-voltage cameo appearances from Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, and Kajal Aggarwal.

Mohanlal’s cameo, in particular, is receiving widespread appreciation from fans.

The film has been praised for its visual grandeur and musical composition. A review by Etimes noted, “Kannappa scores high on visual and musical impact. Sheldon Chau’s cinematography gives the film a rich texture, especially in forest and celestial sequences. Some VFX elements falter, but the production’s sincerity is evident.”

With no major box office competition in the immediate horizon, ‘Kannappa’ is expected to retain a decent number of screens in the coming days. However, trade analysts suggest that strong word-of-mouth and weekday hold will be key to the film’s long-term success.
