Kuwait, Jun 30: In a significant move towards enhancing regional connectivity, a high-level delegation from Etihad Rail, led by CEO Shadi Malak, held strategic discussions with Noura Mohammed Khaled Al-Mishaan, Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works, to explore avenues of cooperation in railway infrastructure development.
The meeting, held in Kuwait City, aimed at fostering greater collaboration between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations in the transport and infrastructure sectors. The dialogue focused on knowledge sharing, strategic planning, and leveraging successful railway models such as the UAE-Oman Hafeet Rail initiative.

Minister Al-Mishaan commended the UAE-Oman partnership and described the Hafeet Rail project as a "model of Gulf integration" that Kuwait seeks to emulate. “Strengthening cooperation in this vital sector reflects our support for greater Gulf unity and improved economic and geographic linkages,” she said.
Highlighting the significance of early coordination, Eid Al Rashidi, Under-Secretary at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Public Works, noted that aligning efforts in the planning and execution stages is crucial to building a modern and sustainable railway system that complements regional ambitions.
The meeting also featured a detailed technical presentation on Kuwait’s long-term railway plans. Minister Al-Mishaan outlined her ministry’s vision for a national railway network that adheres to international standards and incorporates both environmental sustainability and economic efficiency.
The collaboration reflects growing momentum among GCC nations to create a unified and interconnected railway grid, which could significantly enhance intra-regional trade, mobility, and long-term development.
As the GCC continues to pursue ambitious infrastructure goals, the dialogue between Etihad Rail and Kuwaiti authorities marks an important step toward transforming the region’s transport landscape.
