New Delhi, Jun 24: Popular Bollywood actress Kajol, currently promoting her upcoming horror-mythological film Maa, has found herself in the spotlight for reasons beyond cinema. The actress recently made a statement referring to Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad as “one of the most haunted places in the world”, triggering a sharp backlash online.
Kajol made the comment during an interview with Galatta India, where she was asked if she had ever encountered any supernatural presence. “There are quite a few places like that. A prime example is Ramoji Rao Studios in Hyderabad, which is considered one of the most haunted places in the world. I am lucky enough not to have seen anything (ghosts), though,” she said.
While her remarks sparked intrigue among some, others took to social media to accuse the actress of sensationalising for promotional purposes. One user commented, “Kajol is just trying to promote her new horror movie, that's it!” Another added, “I have friends who work at Ramoji Film City and have never mentioned anything of the sort. She's spreading baseless rumours.”
Facing mounting criticism, Kajol addressed the controversy with a clarification on social media. She wrote,
“I wish to address my earlier remark about Ramoji Film City in the context of promoting my film Maa. I have filmed multiple projects at Ramoji Film City and stayed there many times over the years. I have always found it to be a very professional environment for filmmaking, and I have seen so many tourists enjoying themselves. It’s a great destination and absolutely safe for families and children.”
Ramoji Film City, known as one of Asia's largest film studios, continues to be a hub of major film and television productions and a favourite among tourists for its cinematic sets and family-friendly attractions.
Kajol’s clarification seems to have cooled the tempers of many fans, while her upcoming film Maa continues to generate buzz for its mystical and supernatural themes. Whether the controversy will impact the film's reception remains to be seen, but for now, Kajol has put her point across—firmly and clearly.
