Iran fires 40 missiles at Israel; IDF hits back, strikes IRGC sites in Central Iran

Daijiworld Media Network – Tehran

Tehran, Jun 23: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a heavy missile barrage on Israel on Sunday, firing 40 missiles including Khorramshahr-4 ballistic missiles capable of carrying 1,500-kg warheads, in what is being called the 20th wave of Iranian strikes in the ongoing war.

Iranian state media claimed the missiles targeted multiple key Israeli sites, including Ben Gurion Airport, command centres, and a biological research facility. The escalation followed a US-led attack earlier the same day on three Iranian nuclear sites Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan which reportedly caused “severe damage.”

Israeli authorities confirmed that several missiles landed in central and southern regions, including Tel Aviv. Over 80 people were injured, though most reportedly suffered minor wounds. A multi-storey building in Tel Aviv sustained heavy damage.

In retaliation, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) swiftly struck Iranian military positions, including missile launchers and key defence assets in Qom and western Iran. The IDF also confirmed successful strikes on long-range missile facilities in Yazd marking Israel’s first confirmed attack in that region.

Iranian media outlets reported at least nine IRGC personnel killed in Israeli airstrikes, including two conscripts. The IRGC confirmed the casualties, calling the attacks “aggression by the barbaric Zionist regime.”

The clashes mark a dangerous spike in hostilities amid growing regional tensions.
