Udupi, June 22: In a shocking turn of events in Udupi district, the death of an elderly woman, Padmabai, initially believed to be natural, has been confirmed as a case of murder. Her son, Eesha Nayak (26), has been arrested for allegedly strangling her to death over financial and domestic disputes.
The incident came to light on the morning of June 19, when Shilpa, a relative, was informed by the accused that Padmabai was found unresponsive in bed. She was rushed to the District Government Hospital in Ajjarkadu, where doctors declared her brought dead. However, red marks on her neck raised suspicion of foul play.

Following a complaint regarding the suspicious circumstances, the Manipal Police registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR). A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Forensic Medicine Department of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
On June 21, forensic experts issued a preliminary report confirming that Padmabai’s death was homicidal in nature, estimating the time of death between 9:22 PM on June 18 and 9:45 AM on June 19. Based on the report, Manipal Police registered a case of murder.
During investigation, police found that Eesha Nayak had allegedly murdered his mother due to financial issues and ongoing family disputes. He has been taken into custody and will be produced before court.
Further investigation is underway.
